Planning Consent has been granted by South Ayrshire Council for a social housing scheme in Peebles Street, Ayr.
The project, designed by LMA Architects, comprises 39 one and two-bedroom flats on a long-derelict site on Peebles Street.
The proposals create a horseshoe plan around the site perimeter to reinstate three main street frontages and the urban edge.
A central courtyard area provides an outlook and usable external space. Permeability through this space is encouraged by the creation of routes through the site from Peebles Street and Back Peebles Street.
The proposals seek to create a visual focal point at the corner of Peebles Street and Halls Vennal with the contextual urban fabric building forms replicated into the Peebles Street Elevation.
Once complete, the new residents will benefit from car parking facilities and a central landscaped courtyard, as well as local access to train and bus stops and cycle path facilities.
To commemorate the site start, Ayrshire Housing, CCG and the design team were met by representatives of South Ayrshire Council to break ground on what is an important project for the town.
